NatureJournals App Reviews

You must purchase access…

After installing this I tapped on something and the first message that came up was BUY ACCESS. I clicked on that and it asked me to set up yet another password and give my email address. I dont need that! Im deleting this app.

Needs institutional login

Its certainly not an amazing enough app that Im going to shell out for a subscription when I already have institutional access to all of the content. Why not let me access it via this portal? Also - its not cool that collect usage data is enabled silently by default- for shame scientific journal without informed consent!

Crashes in iOS 6

Just paid ten bucks for the month, and now I cant access the articles because it crashes on startup. Please update!

CRASHING

Crashes in iOS 6. Please fix!!

Doesnt work in iOS 6

Used to love it, but cant open it since the iOS 6 upgrade.

Non Functioning

App wont work with new OS. Come on Nature!!!

Why do they do this?

Every time there is new update, the nature app wont work. You guys may have high impact factors but when it comes to your apps they have no impacts.

Cant get content

Despite putting in my name and password will not provide full content. Keeps steering me to pay to subscribe.

App Doesnt Work

Nature is a very expensive journal and the fact I cant access it because of this poorly designed app argues for cancelling my subscription. Whoever your app designer is needs to be fired.

Doesnt work

Downloaded app and logged into my Nature subscription. Allowed me to do that but nothing else. I tried to download a few issues of Nature which it appeared to do. But then after it finished, it said failed to download. Has done this multiple times. Bottom line, it is just an app to view the cover of each issue but does nothing beyond that. Dont bother.

Outstanding on the iPad 3

A terrific convenience. Runs perfectly well on my iPad 3 running iOS 6.0.1.

cant download an issue

just installed the app on my mini but it cant seem to complete a full issue download.

needs work

I cannot get into this weeks issue through this app. I can get there by clicking on the Mail notification that the new issue is out. Subscribers who can only get free content may need to go to My Account and make sure the home site has the right password; try using your subscriber number from the magazine label.

At last - much improved!

Natures initial Reader was a slap-dash concoction, but this one is thoughtfully produced. It downloads an issue of your choice and then presents you with a well organized Table of Contents. The content is accessed though that, by swiping left or right when in an article, or by tapping once when in an article, to reveal a banner of the contents at the top of the screen, and navigation and other tools along the sides. A little surprising when by clicking on a reference you wind up on the website (but still inside the app). Would be better if all links that are to the same issue leave you within that issue. For instance, when reading a News & Views, going to the Article should not take you to the browser version, but to that page in the app. Nice figure viewer, which includes captions, a real necessity sometimes. Also nice are the affiliation pop-ups. The order of Research articles in the top banner seems to make no sense. It almost looks alphabetical by title, rather than in the order of the real Table of Contents, so that physical science is First and biology following. All in all, a much needed improvement over the previous unusable addition. Requires you to sign in to get all of the content that you are entitled to, and it handled that step just fine. Science also has a nice Reader, so we finally have both journals with iPad-worthy viewers. Now if a subscription were available that allowed reasonably priced access though tablets, rather than requiring purchase of print as well.

Useless for institutional subscribers

I would have really loved this app. The layout looks great, and it would have been an immense convenience for following my favorite Nature journals. However, NPG seems to have forgotten that a huge and important part of its readers are researchers in universities and other settings where they have institutional and not personal subscriptions. Through the app I am restricted from the same articles that I can open up Safari and view while connected to my schools network or VPN. Please fix this issue.

Pretty Bad

Swiping from one story/article to the next often does not work. New issues show the wrong cover on the main page. It would be nice to be able to view the issues as they are presented in the print format in addition to the iPad formatting.

Disappointing App from the leading science journal!

Few functions are consistently working. Very frustrating… If this was a manuscript, not acceptable in any journal.

One quibble

I like this app very much. But I have one quibble. The app shows the cover for the previous weeks issue as the current weeks cover. Only when you open up to the TOC do you see the correct cover. Its odd. As far as everything else, the reader performs well. Its a great alternative to the printed edition.

Great magazine and now a great app

Finally -- this is the app ive been waiting for. Huge improvement. Now can we gwt it for the iphone, too?

Not at the level of "Nature" journal

Ok but far from the level and the reputation of "Nature".
